Are YOU ready for school?

So are you surviving “Back to School” shopping? I went this past weekend and bumped into at least a million of you I think… It was Busy!
There are always “trends”, in my day it was:
 shirts with alligators on it (Izod, of course)
 Members Only Jackets
 Leather Bomber Jackets
 Panama Jack T-shirts
 Jelly shoes
 Twist-a-bead necklaces
 Tulip rings
 … and the list goes on
When I mentioned to my kids that we were going “shoe shopping”… they blurted out two things: “Sperry’s” and “Z-Straps”… Yes, even my 5 year old KNEW he wanted a shoe called a “Z-Strap” (I didn’t even know what that was!) Upon entering the shoe store, however, there it was… the huge display of Sketcher Z-Straps!
Now, how did he know this? (Television advertising I’m sure, hey… it works!)
“Sperry” shoes… well, those are just a throw back to my day and the old “Docksiders”. By the way,  if the cost was comparable with these as back then… I now know why I didn’t have a pair! I will confess, I broke down and bought the “Trendy shoes”…

Then it was off to buy “Supplies”: paper, pens, notebook, etc… with a few exceptions,
 Paper (wide rule/college rule/binder or spiral type)
 Pens (gel ink, ballpoint, red, black, blue)
 Notebook (one for each subject, so they should look different… dividers in each…but what kind????
…you’ve been there right, I’m sure I saw you out there too.
So give us your stories. What was the “cool stuff” when you were in school and what did your kids beg for this time around? ARE YOU SURVIVING “Back to School”?

Hi Kimberly,

Back to school shopping sounds like fun! Those days are long gone for me…as my daughter just turned 20….lol
However, I do remember from back in my day the same things as you… with a few others…although I’m not sure WHAT a Tulip ring is????? lol I think we had Mood rings.

Izod..yes and saddlebred too!
Gasoline Jeans,Chic jeans, Gloria Vanderbilts Super Skinny with little red pumps.
Jelly shoes…one pair in every color!
Big Hoop earrings!
Clam diggers.
** my fav. White NIKE with the lavender stripe!
Sam and Libby—>ballerina type leather flats—>also making a comeback…lol
And having latest posters of Huey Lewis and News, Boy George, and Billy Idol to hang in my locker! hahahahhaa

Ahh those were the dayz!

My daughter on the other hand…went through the Barney Phase, and dressing like Rainbow brite…lol—> meaning Anything goes from purple boots paired with a pink and red striped shirt…But when she got a little older it was the miniskirts (not super short ones) with MY white trousersocks pulled up over her knees, big belts and kid sized gogo boots or the chunky heels with a strap. I think that was the valleygirl influence left by the movie Clueless. LOL

Later on, Being at a private school for H.S. I think the pressure to be trendy wasnt as great…even though we had to buy Glittered eyeliner, and Of course a bottle of “sun-In” as everyone was doing it…lol. Then it was off to having L.E.I. shirts and jeans, bright 70’s style and polo shirts, the long crocheted sweater jackets to her big herman munster size shoes…(the ones you stump ur toe on in the middle of the morning going into her room to wake her up and half kill yourself trying not to fall down screaming…lol)Why in the world she ever bought those things I will never know!

It was always and adventure and Great fun school shopping with my daughter and I loved it—-
———Well, its still an *adventure* shopping with her…the good thing is NOW, when she finds 60 dollar pair of American Eagle pants—-> I don’t have to pay for it!

Y’all have fun shopping…
