In God We Trust

On Your Carolina the other day, I showed the new Lincoln penny designs to debut in Feb. of 09. I made the remark that the one thing left off the new penny design was the term “In God We Trust”. I did say something like—“that’s unfortunate”.I was surprised and disappointed when I got an email from a lady that reminded me of the importance of seperation of church and state. She was sure she had misunderstood me.Do you really think “Honest Abe” would have taken offense in my comment. Do you think he trusted in God’s help as he freed the slaves and tried the heal our nation. This great nation, I’m sure, was founded by people that weren’t affraid to say that they trusted in God above. I sure hope our next president prays to God on a very regular basis. “In God I Trust”.What do you think about it ?

I find it dispairing that someone could be offended by the statement “in God we trust”.  Especially after your honest comment.  Who else can you trust, really?  Trusting in unscrupulous, greedy people is why our financial system is in the shape it is in today.

And speaking of seperation of church and state where do candidates for office turn to when they need support?  During election time it is not unheard of to see politions peddeling their political opinions inside the doors of churches. Where does the seperation lie when the laws are clear that churches are not to be used for political reasons?  Check the IRS code on that one.  It is clearly stated that a non profit can loose its tax free status for such participation, but it is still allowed.

Were does this lady o people like her turn to for help when she needs it?  Probably the church or possibly an organization that receives contributions from local churches to provide services at no charge to them.

What was so offensive about it.

Hi Jack,

You might want to check out this link to the snopes research website:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/lincolncent.asp

It states that there are various designs under consideration and that “the obverse of the coin, which features the famous profile of Lincoln underneath the words “In God We Trust” is slated to REMAIN INTACT”. It also states that there have been a lot of rumors swirling that these words will be omitted but they are false.

I can understand peoples different aspect of the issue… I would also like to note real quick. *I am not christian.*  My out look is… “If it’s there. It’s there. If it’s not. It’s not. So people need to pull the cork out of their CW and get over it.”

It’s been inscribed on coins and the constitution since it “first” was “there”. It’s history. It’s a part of america. No one is waving these coins in our faces. Get over it!

Hey Jack,
I agree with you I Trust in God totally. If it wasn`t for this great nation would not be here. When they start taking God out of everything that`s not good. I don`t like the thought of the logo on our money “In God We Trust” to be took off. We as Christian`s need to take a stand for Christ. I agree with you I hope our next president prays daily. We need to pray for America and for the leaders that they would take a stand for Christ no matter what. Thanks for having this blog up.
