My Weekend…

I had a wonderful weekend, aside from a little kayaking on the lake and pulling weeds in the yard; I attended a wonderful event!
If you are like me there is always some sort of “Charity Dinner/Events” to buy a ticket for.
There are a few I always try and save up for: The Beach Ball, Euphoria , etc…
Well, last year I missed one that sounded interesting to me and after a year of kicking my self in the butt for missing it… this year we went.
Saturday, my husband and I went to “Dinner on the Farm” an event put on by The Carolina Farm Stewardship Association.
(Which is just to say, citizens of North and South Carolina who wish to see us sustain ourselves buy growing and eating more local food…
minus all those pesticides, steroids and hormones…etc.)
This was a six course dinner, in between which, the farmers supplying that course would talk about what they do and how you were able to enjoy what was before you.
There were remarkable chefs from places like the Cliffs and Oconee Bells who talk about how it was prepared. (Oh, did I mention a different wine with ALL six courses…I know!)
We enjoyed educational, intellectual conversations with area growers and ate like kings (or at least as those a generation or two ago did)…
and we enjoyed all this, IN A BARN! A clean, beautiful barn with it’s own brick ovens, at Greenbrier Farms in Easley (Dacusville area).
The menu had items like:
Heirloom tomato and butterbean salad
Pumpkin soup
A Poultry dish
A Beef dish
And Goat cheese Cheesecake with a muscadine sauce
Mmmmmm….
It was a true original for a truly good purpose… do you know what you’re eating?
Take time to learn, you might be surprised!

By the way, the next of these “get a ticket” events is EXPRESSIONS 3 A runway, fashion show put on by HEART STEP:
The purpose of Heartstep is to facilitate community projects and home renovations for the widowed, elderly and underprivileged.

Some how, they have me being a run-way model for this (Yes, they have real models… I’m the gimic, tv-girl model… but that’s ok, because I LOVE what their doing!)
See ya’ on the show,
kimberly
