Say “Thank You”

Today we had a local group from “Honor Flight” on the show…
A group wanting to send as many World War two veterans as they can to see the national monument for themselves… free of charge, of course. That will mean a lot of donations, so dig deep or find a local ‘vet’ in your area to sponsor and raise funds for!
After our segment on this, a lady named “Vi” sent me a lovely e-mail. Her husband could have had one of these free trips, if he had not passed some five years ago. Broke my heart.
She then shared a story of a World war Veteran that passes away this past June 17th. You may have seen his story passed along the internet or portrayed on “Band of Brothers”.
His name was ‘Shifty’. (I want to say, he was from Toccoa, GA?) He had no Emmy’s or Oscars, just a real life hell on the beaches of Normandy.
Shifty left this world about the same time as Ed McMahon, Farah, and Michael Jackson. True, the world will miss all those just mentioned…
But ‘Shifty’ had no parade, media coverage or pilgrimage to his funeral. What a shame. Google his story further and pay some honor to a real American hero by helping a ‘Vet’ fly on the “Honor Flight” this September.
Below is Information on how you could help:
Benefit Auction for Honor Flight. Help send our WW II vet’s to the WW II memorial in DC. Sponsored by the Pickens Co Sherrif’s Office, American Legion post 11 and Post 52 and, of course, Mountain View Auctioneers. Our WW II vet’s are passing on at the rate of 1,500 per day. Say thank you before it’s too late.

I’m glad you liked this story and I like your blog. Yes, The Greatest Generation will soon have left us and we must pass on the stories of their greatness to future generations—lest they be forgotten.
