Fireworks Safety Guidelines

Never allow children to play with fireworks

Obey all local, state & federal laws pertaining to fireworks

Read and follow all warnings and instructions

Use fireworks only as intended

Do not alter or combine any fireworks

Never use homemade fireworks.  They are illegal & they can cause serious injury

Use fireworks outdoors - NOT INDOORS

Never smoke around fireworks

Wear cotton clothing to light fireworks - synthetic materials tend to melt onto skin, while cotton does not burn easily

Only light fireworks on a smooth, flat surface away from flammable materials

Dry leaves and foliage are especially dangerous - keep away from these areas

Always have water handy. (A hose or bucket)

Only persons over the age of 12 should be allowed to handle sparklers of any type

The shooter should wear safety glasses

Spectators should keep a safe distance from the shooter

Alcohol and fireworks do not mix - have a “Designated Shooter”

Use a long-tipped lighter for lighting fireworks & keep hands and faces away from fuses, shells & tubes

Never try relight a “dud” firework - wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water

Report illegal explosives to the fire or police department in your community
